At the East Broadway station on the F train are traces of another forgotten unbuilt subway, the Worth St Line, which would have been a branch of the 8 Ave subway, the A/C/E trains. The line would have branched off just south of Canal St and swung east under Worth St and then East Broadway before heading to Williamsburg. Originally this line was planned to run through Bushwick, Glendale, Ozone Park and on to southern Jamaica but this was truncated as time went on with new plans to connect the Worth St Line to Utica Ave. By the 1950s the line was scrapped all together. Had the line been built it would most likely meant that the city would have torn down the BMT Jamaica Line, the J/M/Z trains, as the new line would have covered much of the same route.
At East Broadway there is an extra mezzanine level (top photo) which left space for platforms to be added perpendicular to the e
xisting platform.
A lower mezzanine (middle photo) would be at track level for the new line.
